The Gaming Zone is an exciting, innovative and creative social enterprise that provides free, open-access facilities and support for children and young people throughout the borough of Rushmoor. We work predominantly with those aged between 5 and 18 although we do also support and work with young people up to the age of 25.

Our organisation is underpinned by a set of simple, yet fundamental values, which are;

  • We will be creative and innovative in the delivery of services
  • Fun and enjoyment will be at the heart of delivery
  • Safety for all children, young people, staff and volunteers, will be paramount
  • We will respect and value the views of all children and young people
  • We will raise aspiration for children and young people

The Gaming Zone was set up back in April 2007 as a direct response to the lack of positive activities for young people in the Mayfield area outside of school. After consultation with local young people we opened our doors on 4th October 2007 with just 4 volunteers and a £1000 grant from Rushmoor Borough Council. Within 2 weeks we had over 60 young people knocking at the door wanting to get involved!

5 years later and it's hard to believe just far we have come! We now offer sessions on 4 nights of the week offering high quality, free, open-access provision for children and young people across the whole of Rushmoor.

We work in the 3 main areas of multiple deprivation in Rushmoor, among the top 20% in Hampshire. Hampshire. In our target wards there are indices of multiple deprivation including income, employment, health, education skills/training, barriers to housing and services, living environment and crime.

Around 50% of our regular members are in receipt of free school meals and over 60% live in social housing. A larger than average representation of the wider community live in lone parent households.

A large element of our work with children and young people is centred on providing a safe, friendly, welcoming and nurturing environment or children and young people. We work closely with other services, organisations and agencies to ensure that the needs of the children and young people we work with are taken into account and that they feel safe. To this end we liaise with Children's Services, Housing, Locality Team, Schools, Police and Parent Support.

We also support local schools, groups and events when and where appropriate and we are particularly keen to further develop these relationships, by offering support services.
